Individual Mental Health Therapy

You don’t have to hit “rock bottom” before you ask for help. If you are wondering when it’s the right time to get professional help, consider the following questions…

  1. Are you feeling trapped by rigid rules around your health and food choices?

  2. Are these "rules" making it difficult for you to enjoy social experiences with friends, family, or colleagues that involve food?

  3. Do you associate a sense of personal worth and value with the way your body looks?

  4. Do you feel overwhelming shame and guilt after eating and only permit yourself to be nourished after doing something to "earn it"?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, it is time to ask for help. You have come to the right place!

Perhaps you are not struggling with your relationship with food, but you are feeling “stuck” in negative, persistent thought-patterns and intense unpleasant emotions that take over your moment or even your entire day, making you want to avoid things that you would otherwise enjoy. If this sounds like something you are struggling with, you have also come to the right place. There have been important experiences that shaped the way you think and feel towards yourself. That's where our work begins…

How Can I Help?

I provide a unique treatment integration of EMDR Therapy with DBT. Together, these evidenced-based modalities provide the ultimate platform for healing both the body and the brain from past traumatic and disturbing experiences. These past experiences often include emotions, thoughts, images, and sensations that may hold the “charge” that can be triggered when faced with remotely similar things in the present. Just like physical wounds need immediate care at the source of the injury, emotional wounds do too. When emotional wounds are neglected, they may not heal or resolve fully, increasing the risk for complications to reoccur later. Think of it this way, EMDR is the medical equipment you may use to recover and heal following an emotional wound, and DBT is the strategies you learn to regain control of your mind and create meaning in your day-to-day life.

What to Expect

All new clients complete a “New Patient Enrollment Packet” and complete an intake appointment to help me learn about your personal history and background, what you need help with, collect baseline measures, and anything else you would like me to know about you. Following the intake appointment, we will create your treatment goals, review psychoeducation about the EMDR 3-pronged protocol, and overview of EMDR Therapy treatment. DBT skills are taught during EMDR Phase 2 (resourcing and preparation) to nurture mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills before reprocessing begins.

  • Intake session is 90-mins

  • Regular follow-up sessions are 60-min

  • Average treatment duration is 1-2 years, depending on needs

  • Weekly sessions are recommended for the first 3-6 months, and then reduce to biweekly and monthly, depending on clinical need and client’s needs

Throughout treatment, we will monitor your treatment goals to ensure you are getting what you need out of therapy. Building trust and rapport with a therapist takes time and patience. Your feedback about how treatment is going is of utmost importance. My goal is to foster a therapeutic environment where you feel comfortable enough to share your opinion about what’s going well and what is not.
